ARLINGTON, Va. -

Democrat Terry McAuliffe says his Republican rival's positions on family law and other social issues will hurt Virginia's economy, but Ken Cuccinelli says McAuliffe's policies are the real "job killers."

The candidates for Virginia governor didn't share the stage during an energy forum Thursday. But they spent much of the time attacking each other.

McAuliffe held up a Washington Post article that detailed Cuccinelli's ties to father's rights advocates, who believe men are treated unfairly in divorce and custody cases. He says Cuccinelli's social policies would alienate women who are important to the state's energy future.

Cuccinelli accused McAuliffe of bringing up "obscure and unrelated things" that won't impact the business climate. He says McAuliffe is beholden to Washington special interests and can't be trusted to protect Virginia's coal industry.
