Sentencing delay sought for ex-Fiesta Bowl chief

PHOENIX (AP) - A federal judge is being asked to delay the sentencing of the Fiesta Bowl's former top leader for his guilty plea to a felony conspiracy charge in a campaign-finance scheme.

A lawyer for former Fiesta Bowl chief executive John Junker is asking that Junker's current Sept. 30 sentencing date be reset to January.

Attorney Stephen Dichter says state prosecutors want additional pre-sentencing cooperation from Junker and that state and federal prosecutors agree with the request to delay his federal sentencing.

Junker told authorities that he and another bowl employee conspired with each other and a bowl lobbyist to ask bowl employees to make campaign contributions.

Junker also awaits sentencing on his guilty plea to a state felony charge of soliciting a fraudulent scheme.

Both sentencings have been delayed several times.
