Tom Fedewa and his wife lived in Oregon. They raised chickens and when they moved back to D.C., they missed the fresh eggs. So two years ago, they got some chickens.
The chickens have been laying eggs in a pen in the Fedewa's backyard in Takoma Park in the District.
Fedewa says they take it seriously.
"You don't jump into this saying tomorrow I'm going to have chickens” says Fedewa. “You need to have good housing. You need to be clean."
The chickens are hens, not noisy roosters. Fedewa says they don't smell. Even so, someone complained.
On Wednesday, Fedewa got a visit from D.C. Animal Control. He has been told he is in violation of D.C. code and must relocate the chickens.
Fedewa calls it "ridiculous" and says D.C. should change the law.
