Groundbreaking for new Chuck Brown Memorial Park

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

District leaders celebrated the birthday of the "Godfather of Go-Go" by breaking ground on the new Chuck Brown Memorial Park.

Construction of the park in Northeast D.C. should get underway in just a few weeks.

The memorial will stand as a tribute to Brown's music.

The original plan was to build a large 900-seat amphitheater at the site. But after concerns from neighbors, the project was scaled back.

District officials say that a ribbon cutting on the memorial should take place in less than a year.
