I-Team: Seniors more apt to see good, be victims of bad

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's unfortunate, but happens all too often. More and more, senior citizens find themselves of predatory scams. But, why? Well, a new scientific study shows just why this age group may be more vulnerable to these types of schemes.

The I-Team's Dana Fowle has the information; including, as we get older, we're apparently less able to read between the lines and infer information. Often times this is how we discern if people or information could be a danger or trouble for us.

This is how we read facial cues or other physical signs that could cause us to be suspicious or wary.

Scientific research shows that as we age, our gut-level response actually diminishes. Part of the brain involved with this starts to become muted.

One of the doctors involved in the study say the elderly have a tendency to lean toward positive emotional experiences, too. In short, many senior citizens are more drawn to seeing the good or positive.

Now, the positive spin on life isn't all bad. The same research shows that senior citizens are generally happier than young adults. Research shows that the latter are much more adept at sussing out a phony scam.
