Earth, Wind & Fire: Now, Then & Forever

Posted: Updated:

"From 8 tracks to iPads. That pretty much covers it." That's how Earth, Wind & Fire describes their long lasting career...and that fact alone explains the title of their latest album. "Now, Then, & Forever", which hits stores September 10th. They're also playing the Hollywood Bowl next month. Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson explained to Steve and Maria how they were completely surprised by their success.

Bailey: "We had no idea, just the love of music....First time I ever made music and they gave me a couple of dollars I was like 'you get paid for it too!?'"

Johnson: "and we just locked into the creative process."

White: "and you were just so happy to be in a band and making music...and that was our first goal just to have a great band."

The guys even talked about how they're gaining new fans every year and in some cases, the love of their music is passed from moms and dads to sons and daughters.

White: "We have 5 generations of people that come to see us and in our case we have people that tell us where they were and now they're bringing their children and their grandchildren."

They even threw out a stat about their music that would sound unbelievable coming from any other group:

"Every 1 minute and 38 seconds somewhere on radio on the planet Earth, an Earth, Wind & Fire song is being played."
