ELKRIDGE, Md. -

It is a day this 911 operator will never forget. Howard County Dispatcher Meghan Blizard got the call at 9:02 a.m. that a baby was on the way and was not waiting for the ambulance.

The mother and father had pulled over along eastbound Route 100 near I-95 when mom went into labor. They had been en route to Anne Arundel County Medical Center.

Blizard, who has worked as a Howard County dispatcher since 2009, was able to calmly help them through the delivery.

The baby boy was born at 9:05 a.m.

"I have been on maternity dispatch calls before, but this is the first time where they actually had the delivery while I was on the call," said Blizard. "You have that fear that there may be complications, but you're excited that you get to be part of something -- something people think only happens in movies."

The 38-year-old mother and her baby were transported to the hospital in good condition.

The little boy was the third baby born outside of the delivery room in our area in the past three weeks.

On August 1, a woman delivered a baby boy on the platform of Metro's L'Enfant Plaza station. On Thursday, a little girl was born along I-270 in Germantown, Md.
