Hugo Boss Around The World Yacht Race

Posted: Updated:

Some call it the Mount Everest of sports because only a few dozen people have ever succeeded -- sailing solo around the world without stopping!  More people have actually climbed Everest, even ventured into space than have circled the globe alone non-stop.

The Hugo Boss racing yacht has pulled into Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach. The 4.5 million dollar vessel was specifically designed to withstand heavy seas and harsh conditions.

Last January, UK skipper Alex Thomson won 3rd place in prestigious Vendee Globe competition on one of the Hugo Boss racing yachts. While on the boat, Thomson only slept 20 minutes at a time every 3 hours.  He ate dried food similar to what astronauts eat.  There was no bathroom and only a roll-out bunk.   It took him nearly three months to circumnavigate the planet without stopping.

The Vendee globe is held every 4 years.
