A group opposed to 'Stand Your Ground' laws has released a new public service announcement that re-enacts the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
The video begins with the actor portraying 'Zimmerman' on the phone to police. The actual 911 call is heard as the actor playing ‘Martin’ is seen in the distance wearing a hoodie-sweatshirt.
The video then picks up inside of the home of a 'neighbor' who called police to report the shooting. A gun blast is also heard.
The PSA continues back outside as police arrive on scene. The actor portraying 'Zimmerman' can be seen raising his hand as officers shine a light on him. The body of the actor playing 'Martin' can be seen on the ground.
As the PSA ends, several more actors can be seen on the ground wearing clothes similar to that which the actor playing ‘Martin’ is wearing.
According to the DailyMailOnline, the state names listed over the 'dead' victims are states where the 'Stand Your Ground' exists.
Text on the screen reads - 'Our laws should protect victims. Not create more. Stand up to Stand Your Ground laws in 26 states.'
On its website, The Coalition To Stop Gun Violence features this message to legislators:
"Stand Your Ground" laws represent a dangerous and unprecedented escalation in the use of force in the public space, allowing individuals to shoot and kill even when they could otherwise walk away safely from an altercation. Oppose this immoral legislation.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of any crime for fatally shooting unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last year in Sanford, Florida, where Zimmerman lived and Martin was visiting.
