Girl hurt in escalator incident at Paramus Macy's

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Paramus, N.J., emergency vehicles arrived to the Garden State Plaza Mall around 11:30 a.m. Friday to save a girl that apparently got caught in an escalator.

Macy's workers and Paramus Police detectives on the scene told Fox 5 News that the girl, 8, somehow got her foot stuck in the escalator at the center of the Macy's store.

A witness said he saw the girl's leg pulled in by the escalator up to her knee and that when she got out her leg was crushed. The girl was rushed to the hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries."

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers go out to the young girl and her family," Macy's said in a statement. "We are currently conducting a full internal investigation into this morning's unfortunate incident at our store."

Police are also investigating.
