Bond hearing for 3 siblings in Rockdale child cruelty case

Posted: Updated:
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -

Three siblings accused of committing unthinkable acts of child cruelty went before a Magistrate judge in Rockdale County Friday morning.

Reading the specific charges against Lev Dzyuba and his two sisters -- 21-year-old Alina Dzyuba and 26-year-old Natalia Mellon – the judge said the three are accused of using zip ties to restrain three young children at their home.

The accused trio also allegedly isolated the three young children in their bedrooms for months at a time; only allowing them to use the bathroom. The charges claim the young children had no contact with each other. The bedroom doors were kept locked and the bedroom windows nailed shut.

The children are an 8-year-old girl and two boys, ages 10 and 12.

The judge set bond for the two sisters at $280,000 each. They are each charged with false imprisonment and cruelty to children. No bond was set for Lev Dzyuba. The judge considers him to be a flight risk and threat to the community.

FOX 5 Atlanta's Carolyn Ryan reports that Lev Dzyuba and his wife adopted the three Ukranian children about a year ago. When his wife passed away, Lev's sisters stepped in to home school and look after the children so that he could continue to work.

The children are now in protective care.
