CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are looking for a man who attacked and tried to sexually assault a young woman early Monday on the Southwest Side.

The 18-year-old woman was walking from a CTA train station when a man approached her in the 4600 block of West 59th Street, threw her to the ground and hit her in the head about 1 a.m. Monday, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The attack attempted to sexually assault the woman, but two civilians helped her escape, police said. The attacker ran away and is not in custody.

The man is described as a 20- to 25-year-old Hispanic man with short brown hair and brown eyes, police said. He was about 5-foot-5, 200 pounds with a red baseball cap, red shirt and blue pants.

Anyone with information about the attacker should call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
