Receiver to take over Lincoln Mall operations

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The owner of Lincoln Mall in Matteson has been ordered to give up control of the mall.

Cook County Judge Thomas J. Condon handed down the ruling Thursday and also appointed Collateral Trustee of Chicago as receiver to take over day-to-day mall operations and handle repairs, according to a news release.

Mall owner Michael Kohan on Thursday deposited $100,000 into an account that will be used by the receiver for repairs, the release said. Kohan also provided the village with a check for $21,000 to cover months of unpaid water bills, it said.

A statement attributed to the village of Matteson read, "We are very pleased with the judge's ruling to allow the mall to remain open while the court-appointed receiver addresses the most life-threatening conditions at the mall. The receiver will also develop a long-term plan to make the more substantial repairs that the mall has needed for far too long. We invite Mr. Kohan to work with us during this process and show that he is a responsible business owner. We are happy the repairs will be done, parts of the mall can remain open, and we can limit the impact on local businesses so that the mall can again become a thriving retail center."
