Star Presence in Sacramento: Will Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner Get What They Want ?

Posted: Updated:

Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner are better known on red carpets, but Tuesday they graced the halls of the California State capitol.  This was all business for the two celebrities. They both spoke before the Assembly Judiciary Committee considering Senate bill 606. The bill aims to increase penalties against overly aggressive paparazzi.  Garner is the mother of three young children. She testified that every day there are 15 cars in front of her house, hoping to photograph her and her children.  She said, there's now a bounty on celebrity children.  The price paid for photos is now what she called "absurdly high." She worries, too, that the paparazzi unwittingly help those who may have malicious intent. She recalled the man, now in jail, who threatened to "cut the babies, out of my body." Her voice cracked with emotion and she told the committee, the man was found hiding by her child's pre-school, hanging out with the paparazzi.

This is Halle Berry's second appearance before the committee.  Once again, she told tales of paparazzi following her at a "reckless pace" "running red lights" and she fears, with her child strapped into a baby seat, she is at risk of getting into a crash. She went onto say that even with her child, the paparazzi will throw expletives at her to get a reaction.

If the law passes it would increase the potential jail time and fines for an aggressive paparazzo.  Currently, a first misdemeanor conviction would put an offender in jail for a maximum six months, that would go up to a max one year. And, fine would go from a max $1000 to $10,000.
