ANNANDALE, Va. -

She is Barbara Yancey. The holder of last Wednesday's $1 million Powerball ticket is an Annandale native who went to Thomas Jefferson High School. She bought the winning ticket at the Giant Food Store on Columbia Pike in Annandale.

Yancey has worked in Washington D.C. as a legal secretary for 36 years and says she doesn't want to work as hard anymore. She says she is at a point in her life where she wants to give back and help others. But she was coy about saying whether she is going to quit her job.

She has already been helping her parents by doing their grocery shopping at the Giant Store she has shopped in since she was 4 years old. Her father is 96 years old. Her mother is 91.

Yancey says she has no plans to move out of Annandale. She is single, has pets and no children. She picked five of the six winning numbers in the drawing, one off from sharing with the three big winning tickets in the jackpot.

Yancey says she does not mind that. She only needs a little bit.

"They say you don't sleep good when you don't have a lot of money,” she said. “When you have a lot of money, you don't always sleep well either."
