Police in St. Mary's County say the death of a woman whose body was found along the Three Notch Trail in Mechanicsville has been ruled a homicide.

Detectives with the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Maryland State Police are investigating the death of Moneta Jo Strickland.

Relatives describe the 32-year-old as sweet and loving. They believe it was a random attack and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Strickland lived with her mother, Thelma, in Mechanicsville. She worked as a nurse at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital and was set to be married in March.

According to Thelma Strickland, "She was preparing for her wedding. She enjoyed her job. Everybody liked her, so I don't know why this happened."

Police say Strickland was last seen on Thursday and it is believed she was jogging on the trail. Her body was discovered Friday after she had been reported missing.

Investigators say she had been fully clothed, but they are providing few details as to the cause of death. There are no suspects and there has been no mention of a possible motive.

Crime Solvers has provided a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of this crime.
