Falcons' running game has room to improve

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons gave running back Steven Jackson a 3-year, $12 million contract in the offseason to firm up a soft spot in their offense.

After one preseason game, questions remain about the running game.

Jackson carried five times for just 8 yards and the Falcons rushed for 92 overall in Thursday's 34-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Atlanta's offensive line also played a key role.

Peter Konz, a second-year pro, has replaced retired 13-year veteran Todd McClure at center, and the search for a right tackle continues after Atlanta released Tyson Clabo last winter.

Michael Johnson was scheduled to be at that spot, but he was lost for the season last week when he dislocated his left ankle and fractured his fibula.
