"God gave me the strength to get through this," says Eulalia Lovelace.

Ask any parent. It's the worst feeling in the world knowing your child is sick and there's nothing you can do about it.

But now she can hug the stranger who saved their life.

"It's a sign of relief to know someone came from another state for this joyful day to meet the person he saved. I was just joyful and happy," said Eulalia.

On Saturday, 10-year-old Mychaela Lovelace met the Maryland man who made a life-changing decision for her - way back when he was in college. It happened at the Michigan Marrow 5K Walk and Fun Run.

"I finally met the person who saved my life. I'm just happy and grateful, " says Mychaela.

Two decades ago Martrel Perry signed up for the bone marrow registry. He'd actually forgotten about it when he learned he was Mychaela's perfect match.

"I have a 10-year-old daughter as well. The same age as she was at the time. I just knew I had to do something," says Perry.

Mychaela, who was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, had the critical procedure in 2009. Despite several bumps along the way, she is here, and on Saturday she showed her appreciation through song.

"I knew this song ever since I was going through it. I thought it was the perfect song. I never would have made it without him," says Mychaela.

The two have talked several times over the years, but this was the first time it was face-to-face. It's a relationship formed out of the most dire of situations - one in which everyone here hopes will inspire others to do the same.

"Everybody, this is the man that saved my baby's life. Without him she would have been dead. African Americans, get on the list now and save lives," Eulalia says.
