Ask Allison - restaurant etiquette

Posted: Updated:

Our Ask Allison question talks about restaurant etiquette!

Here's the question:

“Recently, I had lunch with a former boss at a local Italian restaurant in the Penn section of downtown.

It was near the end of the lunch and we did have a large amount of leftovers.

As we were talking and winding down, the waiter came over and said “The people at the next table would love a taste of you eggplant parmesan."

I looked over at the table and saw four strange women waving.

Now the leftovers were mine but my table mate was paying and said sure and the waiter brought a plate and sliced a piece.

They all sampled the food and said thanks.

I couldn't believe it!

I am mad at my friend, the waiter and disgusted by the "beggars" - I would never think to ask a stranger for "a bite."

Have we become that tacky?”

Signed: shocked and appalled

P.S. the eggplant parm is outstanding.
