The grandmother of 4-year-old Kamari Zavon Taylor is agonizing over his death and lashing out at the 33-year-old man accused of killing him.

Peter Hendy, who has been charged with first-degree murder, was living with his girlfriend and watching her son while she was at work.

According to charging documents, Taylor challenged Hendy's warnings about where to ride his scooter and Hendy repeatedly punched the boy in his midsection when Kamari taunted him about not being his biological father. Police say Taylor was punched so hard in the stomach his liver was lacerated.

Court papers say Hendy confessed to punching Kamari twice. They also say Hendy claims the boy rode off on his scooter, but returned a half hour later sweating profusely, with his legs shaking. The documents say Hendy said he thought the boy was dehydrated, gave him water, put him to bed, and then went outside to sell marijuana.

Kamari's grandmother, Azalia Taylor, was in court to get a look at Hendy up close. In an interview with FOX 5, she called him a coward "who killed my grandson, my 4-year-old, innocent, defenseless little boy."

The court document also says Hendy was charged with child cruelty in the beating of another 4-year-old child.

Hendy will remain in jail pending a preliminary hearing later this month.
