Woman arrested in Buckhead jewelry thefts

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Police have arrested a suspect in a series of jewelry and silver thefts in the Buckhead area.

According to Atlanta police, Farhana Sultan, 30, was arrested on Friday. Detectives believe she is one of the so-called "Pillowcase bandits" suspected in a series of burglaries.

"We received some information from another jurisdiction that led us to an apartment in downtown Atlanta," said Lt. R. Woody of the Atlanta Police Department. "We ended up getting a search warrant and going in the apartment and in there we found what we believe is a large amount of stolen jewelry and stolen silver."

Authorities said they recovered more than $100,000 in possibly stolen items from the apartment and a luxury vehicle parked outside.

"We have linked these items inside this apartment to seven different burglaries in four different jurisdictions and two different states," Woody said.

Investigators are in the process of contacting some victims to identify their property.

Sultan is charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen Sultan driving around to contact them.
