Oceanport First Aid and Rescue Squad

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Among the first responder groups to step in during Superstorm Sandy was the Oceanport First Aid and Rescue Squad in Oceanport, New Jersey.

It's been 9 months since Superstorm Sandy struck our region. The vicious storm caused a quarter million dollars to the building and ambulances that house the Oceanport First Aid and Rescue Squad. Even though the insurance and town budget has kicked in, the group still needs help.

Fred Filippone, the captain of the volunteer first aid squad, said that in his 37 years with the squad he has never seen something like Sandy, a storm that he and his crew are still feeling the effects of.

Carol Connor has seen the place in its heyday when things were running smoothly. But since the storm, she said the first aid squad is struggling to get fully back up and running.

Squad workers say their first priority is to have their ambulances running well. When one goes out for service repairs because of Sandy-related damage, they just hope it won't be long until it returns.

The organization is asking for donations to support their continued efforts:

Anaconda sightings in Lake Hopatcong reported

Boaters in Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey are keeping an eye out for an unwanted visitor lurking underwater: a 14- or 15-foot-ong snake, possibly a green anaconda. Several people have seen the reptile, which has probably holed up in a drain pipe. Reptile specialists are also searching the lake for signs of the snake. So far no more sightings have been reported.
