CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Coming off the first off day of training camp, looked like the Bears were coming off the first off day of training camp, but the buzz of practice surrounded the calf injury to linebacker DJ Williams.

The player signed to replace Brian Urlacher, was carted off the field early, showed up to lunch limping in a walking boot and is listed as week to week. Trestman showed little concern about Williams saying, "He's a vet, he's been around the league a long time. He's all business, I expect he'll be just fine when he comes back." In his absence rookie Jon Bostic stepped in, along with Zac Bowman. Both were praised for adjusting and contributing quickly. But obviously Williams would be a big loss if he isn't 100% for the regular season. Its very early, so if there's going to be an injury of any kind, I guess now is the time.

Offensively there were lot of dropped balls and pre-snap penalties but that's the reality of the 5th practice of the season. And no worries, Jay Cutler says "everyone has bought in...100%". The QB's snarky response to a follow up about his statement last week that not everyone had yet. He's probably right, I mean it takes time for anyone to accept change. But Cutler certainly has bought in. "They're quarterback friendly", Cutler said of the new staff, "they want to make it as easy as possible on myself and the other qb's. It's fun to work with those guys." Fun?! Sounds like things are off to a honeymoon start in Bourbonnais. But if Cutler's having fun, so will the 5000+ fans that showed up for practice today. Everyone knows he's the key.

New Offensive Coordinator Aaron Kromer is impressed with the QB "Jay has done a really good job digesting the system and leading the group."

"Jay and the receivers are walking through plays until 11 o'clock at night, we need to be doing just as good of a job, " according to Eben Britton who was forced into the o-line mix as Jermon Bushrod continued to watch with a calf injury and Jonathon Scott sat out with a little knee soreness. Britton, Kyle Long and Jordan Mills all part of rotating in and getting.com valuable practice reps. "This is the time to see", Cutler added, "the pads are on now so we'll see what we got, so there's a lot of time left." And they hope the best 5 guys emerge for success when it counts.
