Brutal beating caught on video in Springfield

Posted: Updated:

A brutal beating was caught on camera Monday night in Springfield. Police say the video shows a person being attacked by a large group of people -- punched and kicked repeatedly.

Fairfax County police are hoping to identify and perhaps charge some of the kids on the tape.

The beating lasts just about a minute. You can see the victim appear to be sucker-punched and then hits the deck.

That is when the real beatdown begins. Several boys and girls are hitting and kicking him -- some of the blows to his head. Others appear to have their cell phones out recording the attack.

The beating happened just after 10 p.m. Monday in the 5200 block of Inverchapel Road in Springfield. Apparently, there had been a party nearby.

Some of the kids did eventually get the others to stop the beating and everybody just walked away, including the boy getting attacked.

The video was captured on a surveillance camera outside Jack Webb's home.

"I had gone to bed about 10 o'clock [Monday] night because I was particularly tired and I heard the disturbance right here,” said Webb. “I knew that there was a party going on next door. We'd seen some folks out there. But there was quite a crowd and when I heard the commotion going on outside my bedroom, I looked out and this fracas was going on right in front of me. By the time I got up and got to the door, it was already done."

Fairfax County police are considering the attack a crime and are asking anybody who recognizes a face on that surveillance video to give them a call.

If you recognize anyone in this video or have information about this assault call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
