NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner is saying that he won't quit his campaign despite the calls from some "politicians" and "newspaper editors."

"They don't know New York, they don't know me," he says in the video, which was posted to his campaign website Tuesday. "Quit isn't the way we roll in New York City. We fight through tough things, we're a tough city."

The former congressman admitted last week that he continued to send lewd messages and photos online to several women even after he resigned from the House of Representatives in 2011 for similar behavior. During the time he was sexting other women, his wife, Huma Abedin, gave birth to their son.

"Someone wants to come out with something embarrassing in your private life, you've got to talk about that for a little while," he says in the video.

He says that the campaign is about "helping New Yorkers, because they understand this is about them."

Prior to the latest revelations, Weiner was slightly leading the Democratic field in the polls. But the most recent Quinnipiac University poll shows his support eroding, dropping him to fourth place behind Christine Quinn, Bill de Blasio, and William Thompson.
