Police: Alcohol may be a factor in deadly crash

PHOENIX -

A woman was killed Monday morning in a collision at 35th Ave and McClellan Blvd.

Police say a 23-year-old woman driving a gray Toyota was heading south on 35th Avenue when she drifted into the northbound lanes and hit a sport utility vehicle head-on around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The 19-year-old driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and his 17-year-old passenger was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Nancy Pina Patino was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries. Police say it appears alcohol played a role in the crash and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.

The occupants of the SUV will be ok.
