Top Car Pick is Surprising: The Chevy Impala

Posted: Updated:

In southern California it feels like we spend half of our time in our car – stuck in traffic.  So why not do it in the #1 sedan in the U.S?  The Chevy Impala.  Yup the Impala earned top scores from Consumer Report.

"I was surprised to a point.  But when I first saw this car about six months ago at a reveal for a dealer buy, I was just wowed!" said Lew Hamilton, the sales manager at Selman Chevrolet in Orange.

The Impala is the first American sedan in 20 years to earn the top score of "excellent" from Consumer Report.  So we wanted to know what's so Amazing about it?

"The mileage is about 25 miles per gallon, plenty of power, it's a quiet smooth ride," said Matt Lantz, a Chevy salesman.

Still don't get why the Impala scored so high? We were skeptical too.  So we took it for a test drive.  The Impala felt smooth and didn't jerk or bounce around while driving.  The brakes were also smooth, and Matt Lantz says the car's suspension was redone in the new 2014 Imapala.

In the last review of the impala in 2010 – consumer report said the car was noisy and behind the times.  Well not anymore, the new model includes hands free blue tooth at the base price.  And add-ons can range from leather seats to lane departure alerts, and a back-up camera.

The impala is also roomy and top notch quality.

And for consumers the best part is the bang you get for your buck.  The starting price tag for the Impala is about $27,000.

The only two other cars that got higher scores, don't compare in the price department.  The Tesla model S, costs more than $64,000.  And the BMW 135i coupe starts at nearly $40,000.

Cars like Audi A6 and the Lexus ls460 were outranked by the Impala and they're much more expensive too.
