Father arrested after breaking window with pickaxe

Posted: Updated:

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A 46-year-old Stamford man has been charged with assault after police say he used a pickaxe on a car where his teenage daughter had fled following an argument.

Police tell the Stamford Advocate they arrested Richard Palkimas on Wedensday after he broke the passenger-side car window with the tool.

Sgt. Sean McGowan says the girl had fled to the car and locked the doors because she was scared after arguing with her father. He says the girl was cut by the broken glass, but refused treatment for her injuries.

Palkimas' lawyer, Lindy Urso, calls the assault charge unwarranted. She says the teen had taken the only set of car keys and her father was simply trying to prevent her from driving off in the vehicle.
