Former Gray campaign aide Thomas Gore sentenced

Posted: Updated:

A former campaign aide to D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray has been sentenced to six months in prison for committing campaign finance violations and destroying evidence.

Thomas Gore was sentenced Friday. After leaving prison he must also spend six months on home detention and do 200 hours of community service. The 58-year-old was the acting treasurer for Gray's 2010 campaign, in which Gray defeated incumbent Adrian Fenty in the Democratic primary.

Gore admitted making illegal payments to a minor candidate, Sulaimon Brown, and shredding evidence of those payments. Brown was paid to stay in the race and make negative comments about Fenty.

Gore is one of three Gray campaign aides who've pleaded guilty to felonies. The most serious charge involved $650,000 in illicit funds that prosecutors have said tainted Gray's victory.
