Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry has paid half of the amount he was fined for accepting cash gifts from two construction companies.

Barry was censured and fined by the city’s ethics board $13,600 earlier this month after violating the council’s code of conduct for taking a total of $6,800 from Forney Enterprises and F&L Construction.

The former D.C. mayor says he reported the gifts in his 2012 financial disclosure form and a payment plan for the fine had been reached.
