Make-A-Wish grants boy's request for his own app

PHOENIX -

The Make-A-Wish Foundation made history today. For the first time, a child wished to invent an app -- and that app is now available to the public.

Although it's a new request, the app inventor says he knows it would happen all along -- because he's never of heard of the Make-A-Wish Foundation failing to make a dream come true.

"For my friends and my mom yeah, she cannot beat it," says recipient Ryan Cottor.

Today 12-year-old Ryan Cottor enjoys bragging rights following the release of his video game app Monkey Wars.

"The object of the game is not to die!" he laughs.

While battling spinal muscular atrophy, a life-threatening medical condition, Ryan worked with 9 volunteer video game designers to create the game where monkeys battle humans to defend an island.

"All of the experienced ones were around a table and I was at the head of the table and they were asking for me advice but it was just so cool to work with them."

Without the designers volunteering their services, creating the game would have costs about $120,000.

"The wonder of Make-A-Wish is that people want to help us grant wishes. We see this all the time, so these nine designers worked with us through the entire process and completely donated and made something that would be impossible for us to do financially something that we could easily do for Ryan," says Elizabeth Reich, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona.

To get the game all you do have is go to your app store and search Monkey Wars. You can download it for free but don't expect it to be too easy, Ryan told us.

"For my friends and my mom, yeah she cannot beat it."

Next, Ryan plans to create a video game that can also be played online.
