William, Kate Name Royal Baby 2 Days After Birth

Posted: Updated:

It's the question the world has desperately awaited an answer to: What would Prince William and Kate Middleton name their new prince? Now we know.

Two days after their son's birth and one day after showing him off to an adoring public outside St. Mary's Hospital in London, the royal family disclosed that the duke and duchess have named their first born George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.

George has been the name of six British kings, including Queen Elizabeth's father, who reigned from 1936 to 1952.

The 8-pound, 6-ounce baby born Monday is third in line to the British throne.

The infant prince spent his first night at home with mom and dad. Then, the queen got her first glimpse of her new great-grandson Wednesday.

The royal couple told reporters Tuesday that this is an emotional time for them, but Prince William also cracked a few jokes. He said his son "thankfully" has his mother's looks and has more hair than he does.

Experts believed the name would be released this week but said it was possibly a decision could take longer.
