WASHINGTON -

D.C. police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a large group that swarmed a Southeast D.C. convenience store resulting in items stolen from the store and the owner assaulted.

The assault and theft occurred last Saturday in the 1500 block of U Street.

Police say multiple suspects entered the store and took items from the store without paying. After the group left the store, a person assaulted the owner outside of the store with a piece of lumber.

The suspect who assaulted the owner is described as a black male, approximately 5'8" tall, approximately 180 pounds, with medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a Nike emblem, short sleeve jean jacket/vest, a white sweatband on his head, knee length jean shorts and tennis shoes.

Anyone with information that can assist in the identification of any of the involved subjects is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
