Report: 13 arrested at city pools during heat wave

Posted: Updated:

The non-profit watchdog group New York City Park Advocates says at least 13 people were arrested at city pools during the heat wave that gripped the city last week.

An out-of-control teen was subdued with pepper spray by three police officers at the Astoria Pool after the 14-year-old boy reportedly became abusive with lifeguards.

He also chest-pumped one of the officers as they attempted to arrest him, according to the advocacy group.

In a separate incident, five people were arrested at the Sunset Park Pool after they reportedly refused to stop jumping and diving into the pool.

On July 16, a woman reportedly wearing a thong bathing suit at the Highbridge Pool in Washington Heights put on a striptease show. The woman reportedly used a railing in the deep end of the pool like a stripper pole.

The woman threw herself on the ground as police attempted to arrest her.

She was charged with disorderly conduct.

The heat index at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City hit a staggering 107 degrees last week.
