Round two of storms pack a punch south of valley

ELOY, Ariz. -

Another round of storms Monday left some communities underwater. SkyFOX flew over Eloy, surveying the flooding.

Cars were forced to stop in their tracks after the water level on the streets rose quickly. Homes in the Eloy area turned into islands.

Completely surrounded by a pool of water, you either stayed inside -- and if you were out on the road, you took your chances driving through it. The Eloy area was one of the hardest hit.

But we also had reports of flooding in other parts of Pinal County -- the Casa Grande and Coolidge areas were also affected after a storm moved through there.

Monday night, as the water recedes in those areas, it's turned into a muddy mess.

They aren't used to getting this much rain in such a short amount of time. You can clearly see just how widespread the flooding was.

"First there was a big old dust cloud and then everything just started getting dark and then all of a sudden you started seeing streaks of rain just coming down," says Eloy resident Eugene Andrade.

About 3/4 of an inch of rain fell in less than an hour. The streets were quickly flooded.

"It was just like a river. Every time it rains it is like a river," says Mina Sanchez.

Most drivers carefully made their way through the flooded streets, but several cars got stuck.

On the ground a few hours after the storm, the streets are still a mess.

"It doesn't happen very often but like I said when it does, it is like a big event for everybody, it is kind of exciting," says Sanchez.

All the flooded yards didn't keep people from venturing out.

"It is fun when it rains like this especially if you have a truck, you go mud hopping in it," says Bianca Moreno.

We saw plenty of that -- even though it may not be the safest idea.

"This actually cool though gets everybody outside out of their houses and they can actually see what Mother Nature can really do," says Andrade.

Eloy has just been pounded over the past 24 hours. They got about 2 inches of rain Sunday night.

So that is 3 inches in just 24 hours.
