Carrollton church members cope after fire

Posted: Updated:
CARROLLTON, Ga. -

Members of a Carroll County congregation gathered Sunday morning for the first time since a fire destroyed their church.  Wednesday's blaze leveled the Bethesda Baptist Church in Carrollton.

The 91-year-old sanctuary was a total loss, and Sunday's services were held at the church's family life center.

The church's pastor, Mike Owenby, says many members are still coming to grips with what happened.

Insurance adjustors estimate the damage at the church to be about $1.7 million.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
