DC mother loses two children in double homicide

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, DC -

A DC mother is mourning the loss of two of her children in a double shooting early Saturday.

Police say 28 year old Jamie Jenkins had just finished up her first performance, singing with a new band.

As she was getting out of a car outside a friend's house in the 5300 block of East Capitol Street Northeast, someone snatched her purse.

She called her brother 21 year old brother, Jamal Jenkins for help.

And they both wound of dead, shot to death.

"They weren't armed or anything. He was coming on a bike to get his sister. What did they kill them for?" Octavia Mayfield says about the shooting death of her two children.

Police are interviewing witnesses.  They're also hoping surveillance tape from  a church and businesses nearby will offer some clues. So does the family.

"It's unbelievable that they could die for some items that weren't worth anything . It had to be something else,"Mayfield says.

DC police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that helps solve any murder.

The number to call is 202-727-9099.
