WASHINGTON -

The chief of staff to an imprisoned ex-D.C. councilmember has pleaded guilty to a felony tax charge.

Ayawna Webster entered her plea Friday morning in U.S. District Court. Webster was the chief of staff to Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr., who resigned early last year after pleading guilty to embezzling $350,000 in city funds. Thomas is serving a 3 1/2-year prison term.

Webster pleaded guilty Friday to filing false tax forms in an attempt to conceal that the District of Columbia Young Democrats had received $110,000 in city grant money to host a 2009 inaugural ball. Webster was the president of the D.C. Young Democrats at the time. Prosecutors say her group arranged the inaugural ball at Thomas' behest.

Webster faces up to six months in prison.
