When it comes to city living New Yorkers seem to have plenty to complain about: littering, garbage, sewage smell, noise, roaches. But what you complain about most could depend on where you live.
Bad drivers have people riled up in SoHo. Graffiti was tops in Long Island City. Throughout the city broken street lights were a major source of complaints. In Harlem some of the biggest issues were vermin and loud noise.
There were some surprises. In the northwest corner of the Bronx, people complained about noise from the ice cream truck. In Ocean Parkway South, the city logged a lot of calls about dead animals.
Ben Gross, one of the researchers who sifted through the data, says that while the map may be interesting it also points to important inequities between neighborhoods.
"It's the rougher neighborhoods, the less affluent neighborhoods in the city that are really having the biggest problems and need the most attention and I think this map does a great job of highlighting that," Gross says.
