Was A Body Dismembered In Strawberry Mansion Basement?

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police sources say the inside of this row home on North 32nd Street could only be described as gruesome. Investigators found pools of blood and a tarp in the basement. Outside in the trash, there were bloody sheets and blankets.

"Something like this, you don't know anything about," one neighbor told FOX 29. "It's bad, can only end bad, can only end bad. Yeah."

"I never expected to see something like that on this block. It's quiet around here," said Darryl Hayes, who lives just up the block.

Only FOX 29 was there Thursday as crime scene investigators painstakingly bagged dozens of pieces of evidence, including those bloody sheets, gloves, duct tape, a box of trash bags and a bottle of bleach. Sources say investigators believe the person being sought may have dismembered a body in the basement here.

"I didn't expect to hear somebody got chopped up in that building," Hayes said. "That's crazy."

"My heart is really like trembling right now because, when I first got the phone call, I was worried about my friend and her kid," said neighbor Ebony Moore.

Neighbors say a woman lives here with her child, her mother and brother. They were not harmed. Sources say the unidentified person of interest, who was last seen at the house Wednesday night, has at least nine prior arrests, including two for rape. Police believe the victim of this bloody crime may have been a prostitute.

"What is that, another Jeffrey Dahmer in Philadelphia or something?" Hayes wondered.

"Very, very disturbing. I hope they catch who ever did this to this guy," said Tyrone Nunnley, whose mother lives just two doors away.

Investigators believe an ax may have been used to chop up the body. The person of interest being sought by police may have left the scene in a pickup truck. He reportedly works for his family's contracting company in New Jersey. Police refused to identify him.

No body parts have turned up at this point. Investigators refused to say where they might be searching next.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
