PHOENIX -

A 7-year-old boy was rushed to an area hospital after he was pulled from a backyard pool near 60th Street and Bell Road.

The adults in the home apparently lost track of the boy as he swam with four other children.

Firefighters say the children are between the ages of 5 and 11.

According to authorities, the children had been swimming for several hours, took a lunch break and then entered the pool again.

The boy was not a strong swimmer and usually wears "water wings" floaties, but he was not wearing them when he was found at the bottom of the pool.

It's unknown how long he was under water, but we do know he is in critical condition.

"The best is to have adult supervision and swimming lessons so these children know how to swim and know their limitations," said Phoenix Fire Captain Tony Mure.

The boy did not live at the home; he was visiting with a parent.

Firefighters say a total of three adults were at the home at the time of the near drowning.

No names have been released in this case.
