World War 2 veteran receives unclaimed medals

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It took nearly 70 years, but a World War II veteran finally was awarded his Bronze Star Medal.

The Bronze Star is one of the highest honors a member of the U.S. Army can receive and Homer Allem didn't know he was entitled to it.

He was honored for jumping into action during the attack on Pearl Harbor back in 1941.

Allem says when he was discharged from the Army, he didn't read the back of his discharge papers, so he wasn't worried about any medals he might have been awarded.
