Voter I.D. Law Trial Set To Begin In Harrisburg

Posted: Updated:

A Pennsylvania court will take a look at the state's controversial voter ID law.

The law requiring voters to show photo ID at the polls has yet to be enforced, but if it is, it will be one of the strictest in the nation.  The 2012 law was approved without any democratic votes.

The lead plaintiff in the case is Viviette Applewhite.  Viviette was born in Philadelphia is 1920 and does not have her birth certificate.  She thinks the law, "Is the most ridiculous thing she has ever heard."  Since then, Ms. Applewhite has obtained her vote I.D car, but her lawyers push on with the suit, which could land eventually in the hands of the Supreme Court.

The trial is set to begin today in Harrisburg and this morning, the big question on everyone's mind is, "Is this law unconstitutional?"

fox 29's Steve Keeley filed this report from Center City Monday morning.
