GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

Myron Williams, who has been in custody since May 18 on a marijuana charge, has now been charged in the death of 35-year-old Sabrina Gianino.

The victim's mother chocked back tears in court as the charges were read on Monday.

Gianino was found strangled in her boyfriend's home on Wayburn on May 15.

Williams, who was living next door, has been charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and unarmed robbery. Police and prosecutors allege he went into her home to rob her, but took her life in the process.

Williams, himself a husband and father, has a past conviction in Louisiana for cocaine. If convicted in this case, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Williams was remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

In the meantime, Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Chief Dave Hiller is seeking to calm the nerves of concerned residents in the wake of this tragedy.

"We live in a safe community. This is a crime that is unique, it's rare, and we have the person responsible in custody," he said.
