GURNEE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two lanes of the Tri-State Tollway in north suburban Gurnee remain closed Friday afternoon, more than two hours after a six-vehicle crash that sent 14 people to area hospitals.

The crash occurred at 10:49 a.m. on westbound I-94, one mile before the Grand Avenue exit, which is also the exit for the Great America theme park.

The crash involved a semi, three SUVs and two passenger cars, according to Tollway District State Police.

A total of 14 people were taken to area hospitals, a state trooper said. Police did not immediately have information on their injuries or conditions, though at least two helicopters had been called to the scene.

As of just after 1 p.m. the right two lanes of I-94 remained shut down, the trooper said.
