Ending of Ga. 400 toll to create budget shortfall for tollway authority

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Ending the tolls on Georgia 400 this fall will be welcome news for commuters, but the move has created a major budget shortfall for the State Road and Tollway Authority.

When the tolls end around Thanksgiving, the agency's revenue will plummet.  That means it will need to dip into its reserves to fill a nearly $8 million shortfall.

Officials say the revenue stream will expand again with new toll lanes in Clayton, Henry, Cobb and Cherokee counties in the next few years.
