Dozens of firefighters from across the nation attended a funeral in northern Illinois for 1 of the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona last month. Many didn't know him.

Thursday's funeral for 23-year-old Anthony Rose was held in Zion.

Rose was part of an elite group of firefighters in Arizona who carried about 50 pounds of equipment in to battle wildfires. On June 30, while fighting fires in Prescott, Arizona, Rose died along with 18 other members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Rose and his crew were going in to build fire breaks.

Roses' little brother says "Tony" will always be a hero to him. Not because he was a firefighter, but because he set goals and turned his life around.

Rose's cremated remains arrived in Waukegan Wednesday evening, where they were greeted by hundreds of uniformed firefighters and spectators. Tanker trucks shot water cannons as a plane arrived with Rose's remains.

Rose's family lives in the Lake County community of Beach Park, but while in high school Rose was in and out of trouble and his family sent him to Arizona get on the right track. Months later, Sperry says his brother announced his calling and joined the fire department there. Now he's made the ultimate sacrifice.
