Police looking for 2 suspects in thefts of checks from mailboxes in Charles County

LA PLATA, Md. -

Charles County Sheriff's Office detectives are calling on the public's help to identify possible two suspects who attempted to cash stolen checks from mailboxes in Charles County.

CCSO has been responding to reports of stolen mail from neighborhood boxes. Police say in each case, homeowners placed mail, with checks enclosed, for postal pickup and delivery. However, someone stole the mail, altered the checks and attempted to cash the tampered checks at various banks.

Investigators say at least two different women have attempted to cash the stolen checks. The suspects provided bank tellers with an ID, but detectives believe the IDs did not belong to the women. The women were able to cash some, but not all the checks.

Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment. Anyone with information is asked to call CCSO at (301)609-6499.
