Wednesday's Child

Jacob, Johnny, Savannah, Ruby & Reyna Looking For A Loving Home

Posted: Updated:

The Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena, California always rallies to provide a first-rate experience for our kids, so with their help we convened this special sibling set of five for a fun-filled day and a segment that we hope will touch and move families with the room and capabilities to meet the needs of kids like these.  So with no further delay, let us introduce you to (pictured from left to right above) siblings Jacob (2002), Johnny (2005), Savannah (2007), Ruby (2008) and Reyna (2011).

Jacob is a gregarious boy with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm. Like most boys his age, Jacob enjoys playing video games and watching television – but that didn't interfere with him recently being named "Student of the Month" at his school.  Jacob is a nurturing and protective big brother who speaks fondly of his siblings.   He tells us he's hoping for a family that will take in all of them so they don't have to keep living apart.

Johnny is an affectionate little guy with a smiley face who likes to give and receives hugs.  Johnny is diagnosed on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum, with mild cognitive delays and more significant deficits in communication, learning, self-care and self-direction.  Johnny is very inquisitive and could benefit from a structured home environment with routine guidance.

Savannah is a precious little girl with a great deal of courage, a strong sense of independence and a heap of helpfulness.  Savannah is outgoing and friendly and enjoys playing with all of her siblings. Savannah is diagnosed with Mild Mental Retardation and is receiving special services, including speech therapy at school, to assist in her development and progress.

Ruby is an adventurous and dynamic little girl with a golden smile.  Ruby has a personality that will keep you on your toes, and while she is the second youngest of the group she is characterized as the leader (under the watchful eye of big brother Jacob, of course!)  Ruby is reportedly healthy, meeting developmental milestones and making progress in all areas.

Reyna is the baby of the bunch who started walking very early and now loves to run!  Reyna is healthy and developing as she should, including developing a strong will which may soon have her giving sister Ruby a run for her title as leader!

It's been said that it takes a village to raise a child; but it also takes children to keep a village vibrant.  We want to find a family with room in their home and the support of their "village" to incorporate this sibling set into both.

Hell on earth, that's how some doctors describe Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. It's a horrible genetic disease that Nicky Zahorcak was born with. A lot of his skin is raw, the slightest touch can cause blisters that quickly spread. He says, "Right now, all the bandages that you see everywhere even on my sides, they're all raw skin." His mother Silvia says very few people know about this rare condition and she wants to change that.
