NJ school evacuated after practice grenade found

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, N.J. (AP) -- Students have returned to the Elms Elementary School in Jackson Township after they were relocated because a practice grenade was discovered in a student's backpack.

The school's website says the backpack was left in the parking lot. Students in the extended school year program were moved to the nearby Goetz Middle School while police investigated.

Police Lt. Steven Laskiewicz tells the Asbury Park Press police talked to the student and the student's parents and learned the harmless item was purchased at a flea market.

The State Police bomb squad inspected it.

The school was evacuated for about 90 minutes Tuesday.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
